Oddsmakers currently have the DETROIT listed as -105 point favorites versus the MIAMI, while the game’s total is sitting at 7.5.

The Miami Marlins have the worst record in baseball but enter a three-game interleague series at the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday with plenty of momentum. The Marlins are coming off their first series sweep of the year after taking three straight from the New York Mets, the last two via shutout.

“It’s obviously a good feeling to put some games together instead of one here and then you lose three or four or five,” Miami manager Don Mattingly told reporters after Sandy Alcantara’s first career shutout in Sunday’s 2-0 win. “It builds confidence in that room that we can do this.” The Marlins’ pitching staff will put its scoreless streak of 19 innings on the line with lefty Caleb Smith on the mound Tuesday opposite Spencer Turnbull for the slumping Tigers. Detroit has been outscored 52-12 during a six-game losing streak and it was trailing 5-3 in the seventh inning Sunday against Oakland before the game was suspended because of rain. All six losses took place at home and the Tigers have dropped eight of their last nine at Comerica Park.

Smith suffered his first loss of the year last Tuesday against Tampa Bay after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Turnbull gave up six runs in four innings in a loss to Oakland his last time out, although just one of the runs was earned. He owns a 1.34 ERA over his last six starts, including two outings against National League teams in which he gave up one run and five hits in a combined 12 frames. The University of Alabama product, who has never faced the Marlins, is winless with a 3.77 ERA in six career starts at Comerica Park.
