Alberta’s regulated iGaming market takes C$2.89 billion in bets in its first three months
Alberta’s regulated online gambling market took about C$2.89 billion in wagers and produced C$122.1 million in revenue between its launch on July 13 and September 30, 2026, according to the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s first market report. Online casino brought in most of the revenue.
What happened
Alberta’s regulated online gambling market took about C$2.89 billion in wagers from its launch on July 13 to September 30, 2026, and produced C$122.1 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue, according to the first market performance report from the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), released on October 23. Operators are licensed by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).
Every month was bigger than the last. July brought C$542.9 million in wagers and C$22.2 million in revenue from 16 operators. August took C$1.06 billion and C$43.3 million from 20 operators. In September, 24 operators took C$1.28 billion and C$56.6 million. Active player accounts grew from 226,959 in July to 388,585 in September, and average revenue per active account rose from C$98 to C$146.
The details
Online casino dominates. Its share of revenue was 76.4% in July, 82.3% in August and 75.6% in September, when it brought in C$42.8 million. Sports and event betting took 17.3%, 12.1% and 19.5%, rising to C$11.1 million in September; live casino’s share fell from 6.3% to 4.9%.
“Early results indicate that Albertans value the strong oversight and greater accountability offered by a regulated market,” AiGC chief executive Dan Keene said. Unlicensed sites had until October 13 to register or leave, AGLC had issued 42 operator licenses by October 24, and 2% of revenue goes to First Nations and 1% to social responsibility programs.
What it means
A license in Alberta is separate from registration in Ontario: a sportsbook registered with the AGCO, like those on our Ontario sportsbooks page, needs its own Alberta license. Ontario’s regulator enforces its rules, as in its C$100,000 fine on NorthStar Gaming.
