FanDuel overview

FanDuel began in daily fantasy sports and moved into sports betting in 2018, the year Paddy Power Betfair (now Flutter Entertainment) took a controlling stake. It is one of the two largest US sportsbooks, live in 23 states plus DC and Puerto Rico, and has operated in Ontario since April 2022.

Its app has the most App Store ratings of any book we cover (4.8 stars from about 2.1 million ratings). Covers calls its live betting “the best in the business”, and FanDuel won Online Sportsbook of the Year at the American Gambling Awards in 2023 for the second year running.

FanDuel scores 8.5 in the US and 8.9 in Ontario. In the US it loses points for five fines since 2025, mostly for taking bets on markets regulators had not approved. In Ontario, where no penalty has been issued, its slower withdrawals (3–5 business days) hold it back.

How the score is built

Each score is a weighted average of five criteria, each out of 10. Two are calculated from public data (regulatory record and App Store rating); three are editorial judgments based on documented features, payment terms and offer terms. Ontario has no offer score because bonuses may not be advertised there, so its weights are rescaled. Full method.
